It's always tricky watching for leadership among chamber musicians since they communicate with the smallest of gestures and briefest moments of eye contact. But at South Mountain Concerts on Sunday afternoon there was nothing subtle about the presence of Nick Eanet, who was making his debut as first violinist of the venerable Juilliard String Quartet. A youthful 37-years-old, Eanet is clearly being handed the reins of the quartet, whose other members are grey headed and a bit stooped.
