NSW: Accident closes Bells Line of Road
A section of the Bells Line of Road, west of Sydney, will be closed until about 2pm
(AEST) today following a serious truck accident.
Police say a prime mover travelling east left the road at Mount Tomah and mounted a
railing at about 4.15pm yesterday.
A spokesman says the truck continued for about 50 metres before rolling down an embankment,
stopping 30 metres from the road.
Its cargo of canned goods spilled out before the truck caught fire and was completely destroyed.
The 35-year-old driver, from Bligh Park, escaped with minor injuries and was released
after treatment at Katoomba Hospital.
The spokesman says Bells Line of Road will be closed for about four hours from 10am
today, between the Botanical Gardens, Mount Tomah and the township of Bell, as emergency
services recover the truck.
Motorists are asked to take an alternative route via the Great Western Highway.
